Foreign Body Aspiration

Positive Foreign Body Aspiration - 8 y.o. Male
Patient History
The patient was admitted with a persistent cough for 5 days. Patient work-up and chest X-ray revealed no pathological findings.  A foreign body was suspected as the cause of the cough.  Prior to a flexible bronchoscopy procedure, a standard 12 second non-invasive procedure of the VRIxp™ device was performed.

Pre-Treatment:

No Pathological Findings

  Severe abnormality in the
    progression of the left lung
The left lung had less intensity
    and a significant smaller area
    of vibration energy
  Quantitative Lung Data:
   Abnormal Contribution

Post-Treatment:

Foreign Body - Pen Cap

Post-bronchoscopy - VRIxp™ image:
  Significant improvement
  Both lungs progressed normally
and has nearly the same size
   and intensity.
Explanation: the indications on the image by the VRIxp™ device are consistent with a massive blockage in the lung,  thus precluding the need for a preliminary exam with flexible bronchoscopy. The patient was therefore taken directly to the operating room to remove the foreign body by rigid bronchoscopy.

Negative Foreign Body Aspiration, Chocking Episode - 14 y.o. Female
Patient History:
Chocked on a sesame bun 1 week prior to admission.  The patient had a continued dry cough, patient work-up and chest X-Ray revealed no significant findings..o Female:

Mild dynamic disturbance (asynchronism of the vibration energy movment)
  Prolonged expiratory phase.
No evidence in the size and intensity diffrences when comparing right and left lungs.

Explanation:  the findings on the image derived from the VRIXP™ device can correlate to an obstructive disease (e.g. Asthma) and the image lowers dramatically the probability of a foreign body aspiration.
